Last Chance for End of Year Giving!

December 29, 2014

The Missouri Press Foundation is the only non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being of Missouri’s newspapers. Our mission is to honor the past, protect the present and build the future of journalism in general and Missouri newspapers in particular as a vibrant force in a democratic society. The Foundation was founded in 1984 to become the educational arm of the Missouri Press Association and help to ensure a bright future for Missouri newspapers. It was hoped, by providing training programs for Missouri newspapers’ staff and awarding scholarships to Missourians studying community journalism, that the Foundation would ultimately strengthen communities throughout Missouri. The founding members believed good newspapers translated into good, vibrant communities. If you share that belief, we ask that you consider a donation to The Missouri Press Foundation. Make your gift before December 31st and help the Foundation expand its reach in 2015 – and you may be eligible for a charitable donation deduction when you file your taxes this year. Thank you for your support!

Photojournalism Hall of Fame in Washington, Mo. Closing, Fundraising for Permanent Location

December 23, 2014

At the 10th annual Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame induction ceremony, we announced the Photojournalism Hall of Fame, in Washington, MO, will be closing at the end of the calendar year. We are grateful to those who have supported the Hall of Fame for the past 10 years. We are especially grateful for the vision and continued support of its founder, William L. “Bill” Miller, Sr.

Dedicated to sustaining the Hall of Fame, the Missouri Press Foundation has been working with the University of Missouri School of Journalism to find a temporary home for the Hall of Fame until a more permanent location can be secured.

The 2015 induction ceremony location in October will be the Angus and Betty McDougall Center in Lee Hills Hall on the University of Missouri School of Journalism campus in Columbia. The 2015 inductee plaques, a sample of inductees’ work and a robust collection of Hall of Fame photographs will be displayed in the center during the induction ceremony and for a few weeks. Throughout the year, photographs and inductee plaques will rotate periodically through a display case outside the center. Pieces not in use will be cataloged and stored.

We are still working to find a permanent location for the Photojournalism Hall of Fame. A fund of $40,000 has been established with Missouri Press Foundation to help with creating a permanent home. However, much more fundraising will be necessary before we can move forward on a designated permanent space. Any recommendations for a location or... continued...
