Celebrate Missouri Farmers this Month with new Ag series

Missouri has more than 99,000 family farms, putting it behind only Texas in the most farms in the United States.

The Missouri Farm Bureau has set aside Feb. 7-13 as “Thank a Farmer Week.” Across the state, counties will be organizing activities to celebrate.

Following “Thank a Farmer Week” is National FFA Week, commemorated this year Feb. 20-27.

Your newspaper has an opportunity to educate readers about Missouri’s farmers and the importance of agriculture with a Newspaper In Education series, “Agriculture is Everywhere!” This 8-part series shares information on Missouri’s natural resources and highlights commodities produced in our state.

Missouri chickens lay more than 2.67 billion eggs a year! One bale of cotton can make 313,600 $10 bills. Menfro is a rich type of soil found only in Missouri and parts of Illinois. Soybeans, are used to make soy inks, which you probably use to print your newspaper. These are just a few of the facts in “Agriculture is Everywhere.”

The new series was produced by the Missouri Farm Bureau in partnership with Missouri Press. Each feature is 4 columns by 10.5 inches and available ready to print. You may download the series at mo-nie.com using the code: moag16. Use all eight features in the series or as many as you can – each works on its own.
