Flag Etiquette feature for Flag Day June 14

June 14 is Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the United States flag in 1777 by the Second Continental Congress.

According to usflag.org, the idea of a flag birthday originated with a school teacher in Fredonia, Wisconsin, who encouraged students to celebrate. The site notes other activities through the years, including a Proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. President Harry Truman made it official on August 3, 1949, when he signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day. Leave it to a Missourian!

MPA’s feature “Honoring Our Flag,” teaching about flag etiquette, was created in partnership with The Missouri Bar. To download the feature visit mo-nie.com and use the code: usflag.
