It’s Reading Across Missouri Time!

This year’s Reading Across Missouri story, “Manny Kicks Long Ear Lore,” will delight readers of all ages as Manny uses humor to share the important story of mules’ contributions throughout history.

Did you know that Missouri was once known as the mule capital of the world? And Francis the Talking Mule — she was a Missouri gal who was owned by a photographer who has since been inducted into our very own Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame! There’s so much to learn in this story, written by Missouri author Chris Stuckenschneider!

The features are ready to download at www.mo-nie.com under the newspaper-only download code: readmo13.

You may post the teacher guide on your website, copy and distribute the guide, or let teachers locate the guide from the link we provide in the features. The activities in both the guide and the features are correlated to the Common Core Standards.

There is an ad for you to promote the story and soon we’ll have a feature story available on the author and the project along with a photo to download.

Missouri newspapers have six months to use this story at no charge. We also are partnering with the National Newspaper Association again to let newspapers across the nation publish the story. Last year our project, combined with NNA’s participation, included more than 400 downloads of the story “Patriotic Pals, Tails of the Civil War.” Wow!

If you have any questions, contact Dawn Kitchell. Please be sure and read the publishing guidelines on using the story online. Those are accessed with the files.
