Promote “Lift Off to Literacy” on or near Sept. 8

Sept. 8 is International Literacy Day, established in 1965 to focus attention on worldwide literacy needs. More than 780 million of the world’s adults do not know how to read or write, and more than 94 million children lack access to education.

Missouri Press has joined a national effort by the International Reading Association and NASA to encourage kids to devote an additional 60 seconds a day to literacy activities. MPA has created a feature that promotes using the newspaper to improve literacy skills for children of all ages.
