Missouri Press Foundation Fundraiser
Ideal weather for this year’s Kevin Jones 1st Amendment Golf Classic, combined with player enthusiasm and sponsorships from newspaper supporters resulted in more than $1,400 raised for the Missouri Press Foundation’s summer internship program.
Played June 4, at Loutre Shore County Club in Hermann, the tournament was a little smaller this year with 27 players across seven teams, but that didn’t stop those playing (and tournament sponsors) from raising more than $1,420.
Proceeds from the tournament will go directly to the summer internship program, which usually places about 10 interns with Missouri newspapers each year. The experience those interns receive can be invaluable when they see the work being done at community newspapers around the state.
Teams playing in this year’s tournament included:
Tournament sponsors include Neighborhood Reads bookstore in Washington, Mo., The St. Louis American, Lewis Rice law firm, Clarkston Nelson Government Solutions, Central Trust Company and Hermanhoff Winery.
Receiving the tournament’s traveling trophy this year was Katelyn Mary Skaggs, who will keep it on display in her office until next year’s tournament, when it will be presented to another player.
The trophy is presented to a player who best represents the spirit of camaraderie and friendship that the Kevin Jones 1st Amendment Golf Classic aims to instill in every participant.
