Maryville — The Nodaway News Leader announced last month it would cease printing and discontinue newspaper operations on Dec. 31. The newspaper began March 15, 1996, with publisher Kay Wilson at its helm for all 30 years.

Wilson told readers she always wanted a career in journalism and the newspaper was the culmination of her dream after other roles in the industry. “It has been quite a ride. I, and my staff, have enjoyed the task of keeping our subscribers up to date on the news of their school, community and county for 1,549 weeks.”

The newspaper maintained its regular printing schedule for December, including publishing its special Christmas Greeters section. Rush Printing Company, a separate business owned by Wilson, will continue operating.

Springfield — Last month it was announced The Daily Events in Springfield was set to be acquired by Marty and Shallina Goodnight by the end of December. Prior to the sale, The Daily Events was owned by Jeff Schrag since May 1995; Schrag served as Missouri Press Association president in 2017.

Marty Goodnight is publisher of the Springfield Business Journal and was slated to take ownership of the publication in early January. He said The Daily Events will continue to operate for now as a separate company with its own identity, mission and publishing routines.

In announcing the sale, Schrag said it felt like the right time to move on and retire from publishing. In April 2025, he was elected mayor of Springfield

Sweet Springs — In recognition of the Sweet Springs Herald’s 150th anniversary of continuous publication, editor and publisher Kathryn Dohrman was presented with a Missouri State Senate resolution from state Sen. Kurtis Gregory last month.

The resolution honors the Herald’s “long and exceptional history of service to the citizens of Sweet Springs” and commemorates the milestone anniversary.
