Hoffmann group acquires Washington Missourian

From the Missourian

Missourian Publishing Co. was purchased by Hoffmann Family of Companies in early June as part of that company’s Hoffmann Media Group (HMG). The Hoffmann group now has 20 publications in 30 markets, including Florida, Michigan and California.

Dave Hoffmann, chairman of the Hoffman Family of Companies, grew up in Washington and graduated from high school there. An advocate for local news, which he attributes to reading The Missourian as a kid, Hoffmann started HMG in 2022.

“My wife, Jerry, and I take great pride in our Missouri roots and share a deep passion for preserving local journalism,” Hoffman said in the announcement of the purchase. “This acquisition is a natural fit, and we are honored to uphold the Miller family’s rich legacy as we integrate The Missourian into Hoffmann Media Group.”

The Miller family had owned and operated The Missourian since 1937. In that time, it has grown into an award-winning publication recognized for excellence in reporting, photography and digital content at state and national levels.

“Local news has been the heart and soul of our organization for decades,” said Bill Miller Jr., Missourian publisher. “Dave Hoffmann recognizes this and understands the value of local journalism and its importance in shaping a community. He is prepared to make a substantial investment in our company to make sure we continue our mission well into the future.”

The Missourian was recognized with the Missouri School of Journalism’s prestigious Missouri Honor Medal in 1964 and John E. Miller, Thomas L. Miller Sr. and William L. Miller Sr. in 1994.

Also included in the sale is the Missourian’s full-service commercial printing company that prints more than 20 other newspapers and related products.

On the Move

Branson — AJ Fahr has been named regional editor for the Branson Tri-Lakes News and its sister publications, the Stone County Republican/Crane Chronicle, Barry County Advertiser, Branson This Week and other special publications. Previously, Fahr had been editor of the Chronicle.

Karen Fioretti, regional publisher overseeing the publications, said Fahr has taken on an increasingly wider leadership role in editorial operations.

A Branson native, Fahr grew up reading the Branson Beacon, which became the Branson Daily News and eventually today’s Branson Tri-Lakes News. She worked in retail management for 25 years before changing her career path and joining the Tri-Lakes News as a reporter in February 2021.

“I love this area and cannot imagine calling anywhere else home,” Fahr told readers. “I not only report on the news but am fully involved in the community. I know the people, the history and the stories that make up the beautiful tapestry we call the Ozarks. My family and I are a part of that history.”
