After retiring from Missouri Southern State University in December 2024 following a 40-year career, Chad Stebbins became executive director of the Missouri Press Association in January 2025. He oversaw MSSU’s statewide mission in global education, led student and alumni study abroad trips, advised the student newspaper, and taught courses in journalism/communications and international studies.
Stebbins has also served as the executive director of the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors since 1999. ISWNE has 250 members in the United States (including several in Missouri), Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Nepal, and France.
Stebbins is the author of two books, All the News Is Fit to Print: Profile of a Country Editor, published by the University of Missouri Press, and Joplin’s Connor Hotel, published by The History Press. The latter won the Walter Williams Award presented by the Missouri Writers Guild in 2022.
When he’s not in Columbia, Stebbins lives on 11 acres between Joplin and Neosho with his wife, Laurel. They have a Tennessee Walker, two miniature horses, two donkeys, two kunekune pigs, five cashmere goats, two sheep, and several chickens.
