The 2016 Reading Across Missouri project kicks off in January. This year, we’re sprinkling a little magic on Missouri history to make it come alive for young readers. It’s a story that readers of all ages will enjoy.

“Night at the Capitol” begins when 11-year-old Charlie, bored with life in Missouri and the class field trip he’s on, stumbles upon characters from the past and helps save the night by tracking down a state treasure. Soldiers, Native Americans, outlaws, statesmen, authors, and entertainers are the cast of characters is this overnight trip through time.

“Night at the Capitol” is 13 chapters. The promotional ad and teacher guide are available now for newspapers to download and begin promoting. The chapters will be available soon for publication beginning in January. The story is available at no charge to Missouri newspapers through June 2016 thanks to the Missouri Press Foundation.

“Night at the Capitol” was written by Carolyn Mueller and Illustrated by Chris Grant.
