New Jersey Newspaper Contest Judges Needed Immediately!

In Association News On

New Jersey Press Association needs several dozen of us Missourians to judge its Better Newspaper Contest in January. Judging will involve entries from weekly and daily papers in advertising, editorial, online and photography.

Except for a few categories that will be shipped to judges, all of the judging will be done online at your computer — no travel and no expense other than your expertise and a bit of your time.

This request is urgent! MPA needs to provide to New Jersey the judges’ names and contact information by Jan. 4.

New Jersey divides its contest into:

Advertising: 3 divisions (daily over and under 35K circ and weekly papers); 38 categories (classified, retail, online).

Photography: 2 divisions (daily and weekly); 11 categories (4 judges for dailies and 4 for weeklies).

Editorial: 4 divisions (daily over and under 35K and weeklies over and under 6,500). 28 daily categories (28 judges requested), 26 weekly categories (26 judges requested).

New Jersey needs the name of each judge, name of newspaper, shipping address (not P.O. Box), city, state, zip, phone, email and what category judge wants, or her/his expertise.

You can sign up for more than one category and have your staff judge as a group if you wish.

Judges will be instructed to go to the contest website where they will get instructions on how to view their categories, post results and comments.

A few categories in advertising and editorial that are too cumbersome for online judging will be shipped to judges. (A number of our judges have indicated that they prefer to judge hard copies. These categories are right up their alley!) Entries will be shipped to these judges, who will have about two weeks to judge them and ship back the winners.

If you prefer to judge a category that will be shipped, be sure to say that when you sign up to help.

All entries — online and hard copy — should be judged by Feb. 1.

Email ALL of the requested information to Kristie Williams at MPA,kwilliams@socket.net
