Missouri Press has a new classroom resource for you to share with teachers in your community — a set of newspaper task cards called Newsworthy Moments.

These sets of cards have tasks written on them for students to work on independently with a newspaper. Teachers say task cards are a highly motivating and effective teaching tool that can be used across the curriculum.

The Newsworthy Moments set includes 33 cards, each highlighting a skill measured on Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests. Each card features an elementary and secondary newspaper activity to reinforce or measure mastery of that skill.

The Newsworthy Moments task cards address skills in math, communication arts, science and social studies. The cards are in PDF format for teachers to download to use in their classrooms.

To access the Newsworthy Moments task cards, visit mo-nie.com and download the resource using the code: newscards. Post the file on your website, along with the photo we’ve provided, and direct teachers there to download the cards.

Pair this resource with an offer to provide classroom newspapers to your schools – and remind educators in your community about what’s printed on the bottom of each Newsworthy Moments task card: Kids who read newspapers do better!
